First edition of the Reading Climate Action Network (ReadingCAN) Resources & Consumption theme newsletter. Mailed out in June 2021, it was initially produced as a way to stay in touch with people who’d expressed interest in the Resources & Consumption theme, whether or not they were directly involved in delivery of one of its actions.
Resources and Consumption is one of six themes that underpin delivery of the Reading Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan, with Communications and Engagement as a further cross-cutting theme.
Its production was partly motivated by a feeling that, whilst important in building momentum, the actions listed in Reading’s Climate Emergency Strategy were only a partial snapshot. Also, that current reporting on progress was fairly narrow. Focusing on updates to the RCCP board and, through the board, to key stakeholders like Reading Borough Council. The bigger prize was to also engage with the many other groups, organisations, businesses and individuals who were just getting on with making a sustainable difference in their own fields. If all of these efforts could be aligned, then the goal of Reading becoming a zero waste, circular town felt achievable.
